Why Don't American Christians Act Like Christians?
This
is the question we asked when we started this web site in the fall
of 2000.
The
answer is: Because they are not Christians.
The
parable of the Wheat and Weeds (Matthew 13:24-30) tells us there
will be nonbelievers (weeds) in the church among believers (wheat).
One
of the biggest problems is that many people who call themselves
"Christian" don't believe the Bible is true.
That's
Satan's basic strategy... getting us to not trust or believe God's
word. It started right at the beginning. What did Satan tell Eve
in the Garden of Eden?
"Now
the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the Lord
God had made. He said to the woman, "Did God really say, 'You
must not eat from any tree in the garden'?"
The
woman said to the serpent, "We may eat fruit from the trees
in the garden, but God did say, 'You must not eat fruit from the
tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch
it, or you will die.'"
"You will not surely
die," the serpent said to the woman. "For God knows that
when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like
God, knowing good and evil." - Genesis 3:1-3 (NIV)
What has Satan done?
First, he casts doubt on the Word of God.
He asks, "Did God really say this?"
Then he convinces Eve that God was trying
to keep her away from something that was good for her. He tells
her that if she ate from the tree, she'd be just like God. Wow!
Look what Satan has done. Satan has convinced
her not to believe or trust the word of God. That is exactly what
Satan is still doing today. That's why Christian don't act like
Christians--they don't believe the word of God.
It starts with Genesis Chapter 1. The Bible
clearly says that God created everything in six, 24-hour days. If
that is not clear in Genesis, turn to Exodus 20:11

"For in six
days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all
that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day."
This is a very easy to understand verse. God
created the world in six days. But we prefer to listen to Satan,
who says, "Surely God must have created everything in millions
of years." Remember, Satan is the father of all lies, and he
is very good at it. He has us thinking that man's wisdom, in the
form of science, is better than God's word--when the truth is that
man's wisdom has not produced
any proof the universe is billions of years old nor that life
"evolved" from non-life.
So, are you going to listen to the creator of the universe, or
are you going to listen to the father of all lies? Once Satan gets
you believing that Genesis isn't true, then he has you in his grip.
He has you in a position in which you feel God's word no longer
has authority nor can it be trusted. From there he can easily convince
you that divorce is okay
(although God hates divorce - Malachi 2:16); that abortion
is a woman's choice; and that not only is homosexuality acceptable,
but homosexual marriage
is okay with God!
It's your choice. You can go with Satan
or you can believe the truth of God's word.
