a religion
Christianity
is not a human creation.
Look at other
religions. To a large extent they teach self-centeredness. The result
is a focus on ourself instead of on God.
What is the
most important issue religions address? I think it is the question
of what happens to us in eternity. Our time here on earth, in these
lives, is very brief when compared to eternity.
How do we get
from this life to eternal life?
In all other
religions the answer to that question is very self-centered, WE
must DO certain things or perform certain actions. Yes, the
actions that are required may be good deeds done for other people.
Yes, that means we are helping other people. Doesn't that mean we
are focused on other people? NO, it does not. We are helping other
people so WE can have salvation. Our good works are ultimately
to benefit us in the most important way possible--helping us reach
eternal life.
In Christianity
this is not true. While Christians are commanded to do good works,
those good works can truly be other-centered, not self-centered,
because they give us nothing that helps us toward our salvation.
Because of His love for us, God has given us our salvation as a
free gift. He gave his Son to pay the price so that those who believe
in Him [Jesus] will join Him in heaven for eternity.
Christianity
is based on love. In fact, it is not a religion, it is a relationship.
