This is my second e-mail. I read what was said about the Mormons.
When I talked to them, they also teach to accept Jesus. I am cofused
and need help. I am now a Roman Catholic and a student in College,
at present am studing different religions. I believe in the Bible.
I
am 62 years old and attend AA meetings, which I believe to be a
spiritual program and helps me a great deal. However my conscious
contact with Jesus is weak.

Our Answer:
Hello John:
Thank you for
writing. I'm happy to help with your question about the Church of
Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (Mormons). I have combined all
of your emails into this one.
Mormon's say
they believe in Jesus Christ, but they don't. They believe in someone
else who they call Jesus Christ. The name we give somebody does
not define who that person is. For example, if I said I know John
Doe, and he lives in Iowa, has blonde hair and is missing his left
leg, would that be you? The name is yours, but the person I'm describing
is not you.
It is the same
with Mormons. They say they believe in Jesus Christ, but the person
they describe as Jesus is not the Jesus Christ of the Bible. For
example, for a Mormon Jesus is not the unique Son of God. For Mormons
Jesus was just like us until he died and became a god. And like
Jesus, when obedient Mormons die they will also become a god and
will be given their own planet over which they will be god.
Thus unlike
Christianity, Mormons believe there are many gods and they believe
that God himself was once a man. So Mormans are not Christians.
They call themselves Christians, but to be a Christian you need
to believe that Christ is your savior--and we are saved through
God's grace alone, not by anything we can do.
The Bible says,
"God saved you by His special favor
when you believed. And you can't take credit for this: it is a gift
from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have
done, so none of us can boast about it." - Ephesians
2:8-9
But the Mormans
disagree with the above. In Article 3 of the Mormon Articles of
Faith it says: "We believe that through the atonement of Christ,
all mankind may be saved by obedience to the laws and ordinances
of the Gospel."
[For Mormons
the Gospel means the Book of Mormon].
Notice the difference.
For a Christian salvation is through God's grace alone. There is
nothing we can do, it is a free gift from God. For the Mormon salvation
results from their efforts to obey the laws and ordinances of their
church. Salvation is through their own efforts.
Also, in Mormonism
there is no hell or everlasting punishment. Everyone in the world
eventually goes to one of three levels of glory. Those who have
obeyed the laws and ordinances fully go to the Celestrial Kingdom
and become gods of their own planets. This is nothing like Christianity.
There are many
more differences that show Mormanism is not a Christian religion.
There is a good
article available at:

I hope this
has been helpful. I'll be happy to answer and specific questions
you have about Mormonism.
May God bless
you John. May you have His grace and peace,
Steve
