Jesus Says He Is God (pt. 2)

"Do not think that I came to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I did not come to abolish but to fullfill. For truly I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest letter or stroke shall pass from the Law until all is accomplished." - Matthew 5:17-18 (NASB)

Jesus taught in a way totally different from all previous Jewish teachers (Rabbi) or prophets. While we commonly find the phrase "Thus sayeth the Lord." in the writings of the prophets, Jesus always says, "Truly I say..."

While all others based their authority on what others said, and ultimately on what the prophets said God said, Jesus taught directly on his own authority.

"You have heard that the ancients were told, YOU SHALL NOT COMMIT MURDER and Whoever commits murder shall be liable to the court. But I say to you that everyone who is angry with his brother shall be guilty before the court..." (Matthew 5:21-22 (NASB)

Notice in the above, in talking about the meaning of God's law, Jesus does not use the words 9or any similar words) "Thus sayeth the Lord." He speaks on his own authority, saying "I say..." Only God can make such pronouncements about the law. Throughout the Bible only Jesus speaks this way, and in doing so he is saying that he is God.
