Christianity - The Evidence

Is Christianity the One True Religion?

Once we've accepted there is a God, the next question is: which religion is the true religion? Or are all of them true?

Only One God is the True God

Could it be that most religions are worshipping the same god in different ways?

No. Although there are common aspects to all religions--most say that murder is wrong, for example, when you look at the characteristics of the god each describes you immediately see they each describe a different god. Allah of Islam is not like the God of the Bible. Their characteristics are very much different.

Only One Religion Is True

All religions claim to be exclusive. All religions claim to have the one answer to salvation (or nirvana). Even Hinduism, which accepts all gods and already includes the worship of over 300 million gods, is exclusive--you must believe that all gods exists.

Since all religions are exclusive, then either they are all wrong, or only one of them is right.

Having concluded that there is a God, how do you determine which god (or gods) is the true God?

Look at the evidence. Anyone who has followed the rational reasoning and evidence that points to the existence of God, can continue to follow that same type of evidence to find that Christianity is the one true religion.

The Evidence For Christianity

Concider this: a God that created the universe and left evidence that allows us to deduce his existance based on what we see in his universe, would not then hide Himself from us. He would tell us about him in a way that clearly provides proof for His existance as the one true God. That's what the Bible does.

Prophecy In The Bible

Who knows what the future holds? God does, and he's told us about the future.

Making a prediction about the future is risky. You can't be sure what will happen. Even the best psychics get less than 50% of their predictions right--and many of those predictions are not very specific. The Bible has a different standard for prophecy. It requires that 100% of the prophecies are 100% correct. And Bible prophecies can be very specific--giving names, dates and specific locations.

There are about 3,000 prophecies about the future in the Bible. About half are about the second coming of Christ and the end times, and thus have not happened yet. All of the remaining prophecies, about 1,500, have come true. Few other religions dare to even make prophecies, and those that have--such as the Jehovah's Witnesses--pretty much have a 0% accuracy rate. Only God could have a perfect record of prophecy and that is what we see in the Bible.

Science In The Bible

There is one thing that has always been true about science textbooks. They all have to be revised and corrected over time. As we learn more, we need to correct those things we got wrong in previous editions of text books.

The Bible is not intended to be a science book, but when it does mention science it always gets it right. For example:

THe earth, hanging from nothing. The Book of Job is the oldest book in the Bible. It was written about 1800 BC. Yet Job 26:7 describes the earth as "hanging on nothing" in space.

The book of Isaiah, written about 700 BC, describes the earth as being a circle -- not flat as was commonly believed for 1,700 more years. (Isaiah 40:22)

Whenever the Bible describes something we know through science, it always gets it right. Even when science was not to discover the truth for 2000 years. It is only something God could do.

History In The Bible

The Bible is amazing in that it always gets history right. Anytime there has been a difference between what historians believed, and what the Bible says, eventually the Bible has been proven to be right. The more archeology digs up, the more we see how accurate and true the Bible is.

And the Bible is fully consistent. For a book that was written by 40 different authors over a span of 1800 years, that is amazing. It is only something God could do.

The Bible Changes Lives

No other book has change people's lives the way the Bible has. The Koran is a book Muslims' memorize, but most don't try to understand it. The Koran is not a book that transforms people's lives.

But the Bible is.

David Berkowitz, the Son of Sam serial killer has been transformed by the Bible and is now a Christian. His life is dedicated to serving other people in prison, and to remaining in prison to pay the earthly concequences for his crime. In the same way David Berkowitz was transformed, other people are transformed by the Bible every day. No other book has had such an effect on people over so many centuries. It is something only God could do.

Look At The Evidence

This is just a brief summary of the power of the Word of God. There is much more that we can include here. We recommend the book "The Case For Faith" by Lee Strobel.

When you look at the evidence you'll see that the evidence leads you directly to Christianity.

Is Christianity a faith? Yes, but it is not a blind faith. But more accurately Christianity is a relationship. That's right, Christianity is not really a religion, it is a relationship with God. God is inviting you to enter into a personal, one-on-one relationship with Him. You only need to accept His invitation.
