You Can Share The Gospel
Session 15: Open Air Preaching
Ray Comfort preaches to people waiting in line to enter the courthouse.
Open air preaching is different from witnessing one-on-one. For
one thing you need to raise your voice so you can be heard.
There is more to open air preaching than what can be presented
here. But here are a few general guidelines.
Step one in open air preaching is to gather a crowd. You need someone
to preach to. In the above video Ray Comfort went to a place where
people were already gathered... a line of people waiting to enter
a courthouse.
Ways to gather a crowd include running a contest or doing something
unusual, such as having someone in a gorilla suit. Or you could
have someone making balloon animals. Trying to talk to people walking
by on a sidewalk is not effective, as no one hears enough of your
message to get interested in hearing your whole message.
Always be respective to the crowd, and keep your message short.
Four to five minutes is good.
Do something to draw a crowd. Preach for 4-5 minutes. Then thank
the people who are listening and stop preaching. Allow some time
for individual one-on-one conversations. Then repeat the cycle.
To learn more about open air preaching we recommend the DVD called
"Open Air Preaching" (see below) put out by Way of the
